Good Care Starts With Understanding the Problem
Pain doesn’t always tell the whole story.
Back pain, neck pain, headaches and other musculoskeletal problems can be influenced by many factors – including previous injury, stress, genetics, posture, work or sporting demands and how the nervous system responds to pain.
That’s why we don’t begin with a predetermined treatment plan.
We begin by listening, assessing and trying to understand the overall pattern.
From there, we can explain what we find and discuss the options that make the most sense for you.

Meet Dr Richard Mathers
Chiropractor & Owner of Sure Start Chiropractic
Richard has been in full-time chiropractic practice since 1999 and has helped thousands of adults, children and babies with a wide range of musculoskeletal problems.
He holds three university degrees, including a Master of Science in Chiropractic Paediatrics, and has a particular interest in persistent and complex problems, as well as chiropractic care for babies and children.
His approach is straightforward:
Listen carefully. Assess thoroughly. Explain clearly. Recommend honestly.
Richard believes patients should understand what’s happening, why particular care is being recommended and what they can do themselves to help.
There are no predetermined treatment schedules. Recommendations are based on what we find, how you respond and what you want to achieve.

What to Expect at Your First Visit
Chiropractic Care Tailored to the Individual
There is no single chiropractic technique that suits everyone.
The approach we use depends on your age, presentation, preferences and what we are trying to achieve.
Care may include manual chiropractic techniques, mobilisation, table-assisted techniques, soft-tissue approaches, movement advice, exercises and practical strategies you can use at home.
For babies and young children, techniques are specifically adapted to their age and involve very gentle forces.
We explain what we’re proposing before treatment and you’re always welcome to ask questions or change your mind.
Your Care. Your Decisions.
Our job is to give you good information and honest recommendations—not pressure you into care.
We’ll explain what we think is happening, whether we believe chiropractic can help and what options are available.
You decide what feels right for you.
As you improve, your needs may change. Some people finish care once they’ve achieved their goal. Others return only when they need help again. Some choose periodic ongoing care because they find it valuable.
There is no obligation to continue care indefinitely.
