About Sure Start Health
You want care that feels calm and where practitioners explain what is happening and give you simple steps you can follow. Sure Start Health brings chiropractic, speech therapy and remedial massage together in one Kingswood location in Mitcham, Adelaide.
We welcome babies, children, teens, and adults in our practice. Sessions are planned to match the age, attention, and needs of each individual, with appropriate assessment, hands-on treatment, and practical aftercare. You will hear what we find, how the care plan works and when we will review together. When ongoing care is beneficial, we agree on a schedule that suits your week. With your consent, we coordinate with families, schools, and other providers to ensure appointments are easy to manage.

Our story
Sure Start Health grew from a simple idea to make it easier for families and adults to access the care they need in one place. Co-founded by chiropractor Dr Richard Mathers and speech pathologist Lisa Mathers, CPSP, their independent practice combines chiropractic, speech therapy, and remedial massage under one roof. Our dynamic team works closely, so your treatment, care, and aftercare feel connected from visit to visit. Babies, children, teens and adults are all welcome.
We combine warm, personalised service with up-to-date scientific methods and clear explanations. Many Adelaide families choose us for gentle infant options, practical child and teen support, and adult spine and soft tissue care. The focus is clear and easy to follow, with thorough assessments, hands on treatment, and practical support you can use between visits in a modern, convenient setting.
Meet the team
Dr Richard Mathers – Chiropractor
In full-time practice since 1999, Richard supports adults, children and babies with clear assessment and calm explanations. Techniques include diversified methods, mobilisation and table-assisted approaches, with very light fingertip options for infants. Visits focus on practical steps you can use between sessions and a review point. With consent, Richard coordinates with families, GPs, schools or coaches when this helps your week run smoothly.
Lisa Mathers, CPSP – Speech Pathologist
Lisa is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist with over twenty years of experience. She is Lidcombe-trained and supports children aged two to eighteen in speech sounds, language, literacy, early stuttering, and social communication. Sessions are sized to age and attention; with weekly parent coaching and clear goals you can use at home and share with school. With consent, Lisa liaises with teachers and other providers so plans fit real weeks.
Lucy Leane, CPSP – Speech Pathologist
Lucy is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist who works with children and teens on speech sounds, receptive and expressive language, literacy foundations and social communication. She plans sessions to match the age, attention, and goals of each family, and provides practical strategies that families can use at home and share with their school. Reviews are regular, so progress stays clear. With consent, Lucy coordinates with teachers and other providers.
Megan Talia – Speech Pathologist
Megan is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist who has been working with children and their families in both clinic and school-based settings since graduating in 2013. She has a keen interest in supporting preschool and school-aged children across a range of areas including speech, language and literacy.
Ian Tay – Remedial Massage Therapist
Ian holds a Diploma of Remedial Massage from Evolve College Adelaide and is a member of Massage and Myotherapy Australia. He provides remedial, relaxation, Swedish, and prenatal massage using techniques such as myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and assisted stretching, with pressure adjusted to preference. Sessions begin with a brief check-in and end with simple aftercare and a suggested return window. Ian holds a private health provider number for HICAPS claiming.

How we work together
One practice, three services, and a single place to start. You tell us what is happening and what would make the week easier. We recommend a first step, then bring in other services in only when they help and with your consent.
Adults with spine or joint pain
Most begin with the chiropractor. We check movement and comfort, explain findings, and agree on next steps. Remedial massage can sit between visits to ease tight areas. If imaging or GP input could help, we explain why and how to arrange it.
Babies
Infant chiropractic uses very gentle fingertip adjustments with parents present the entire time. We explain each step; you can pause at any moment, and we refer to when red flags are suspected.
Children and teens
For posture, headaches or sport-related pain, chiropractic plans are set around school and training. With consent, we share short notes with GPs, teachers or coaches so everyone understands the plan.
Speech therapy 2–18 years
Sessions are weekly or fortnightly for 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Parents receive a quick debrief every time. Lidcombe is used for early stuttering where suitable. With consent, we provide updates for school, so practice stays on track.
You have one point of contact, simple summaries after sessions, and timing that fits real weeks when services overlap.

Chiropractic
We focus on how you move, what feels comfortable, and the tasks that matter each day. Techniques can include diversified methods, mobilisation and table-assisted drop piece; infants receive very light fingertip approaches. We explain before any hands-on care, and you can pause or ask questions at any time. Safety screening is routine; when another pathway is more suitable, we discuss options and next steps.
Speech therapy
Practical, age-appropriate sessions for speech sounds, language, literacy, early stuttering and social communication. Time is matched to attention span. Parents receive brief coaching and simple practice ideas for home and school. Lidcombe is suitable for preschool and early primary school children with stuttering, and AAC support is available when appropriate.
Remedial massage
Pressure is set to preference and adjusted as we go. Techniques may include myofascial release, trigger point therapy and stretching. You leave with aftercare you can follow the same day, and we agree whether relief care or occasional maintenance fits best.
Our service areas
Our clinic is located in Unit 1, 15 Princes Road, Kingswood SA 5063 in the Mitcham area near Mitcham Square, with off-street parking and easy access via Cross, Belair and Fullarton Roads and nearby train stops. Many families travel from across Adelaide and regional SA, especially for our paediatric chiropractic and child speech therapy services. It is common for parents who live further away to travel and stay in Adelaide during treatment periods.
We also regularly see patients from Mitcham, Kingswood, Unley, Parkside, Goodwood, Colonel Light Gardens, Netherby and Urrbrae, and from nearby areas such as Belair, Blackwood, Coromandel Valley, Hawthorndene, Glen Osmond, Highgate, Malvern, Springfield and Torrens Park.
